What is Cyber Essentials?
It may be something you have heard of or seen on an organisation’s website or email footer, but what is Cyber Essentials? It’s a baseline certification to help protect you and your organisation against cyber threats. The areas covered within both cover access controls, firewalls, routers, malware protection, secure configuration, and software updates via a cyber essentials checklist.
Cyber Essentials is an independently verified self-assessment questionnaire completed either by an IT individual with a need to get all questions correct/compliant to obtain the certification.
The elevated Cyber Essentials Plus is the next step after achieving Cyber Essentials. It is an independent verification of everything that was claimed to be in place when completing Cyber Essentials through a remote or onsite audit. This extra level of scrutiny and review means that the Cyber Essentials Plus certification holds more weight with customers and partners.

Ensure exposed services are configured with strong passwords, using combinations of letters, numbers, and symbols.
Regular Password Update
Regularly change passwords and require users to update passwords when accessing services.
Patch Management
Ensure patch management processes are robust. (While software patches can fix security vulnerabilities and bugs, patching can sometimes introduce new vulnerabilities or compatibility issues. Missing patches for critical or security updates more than 14 days old will result in CE+ failure).
