Field Service Engineer – Job Description

As a Field Service Engineer, you will spend two days a week on-site with a client near Southampton, and the remainder of the week working as part of our Service Desk team in a 2nd line support capacity. This permanent position offers an excellent opportunity for career advancement within a thriving and supportive company. You will report directly to the Head of Projects while on customer sites and work under the Service Desk Manager when at the office.

Location: Southampton area, primarily based at the Castle Malwood office with travel to customer sites.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1st and 2nd line support at the client site.
  • Provide 2nd line support through the service desk.
  • Deliver outstanding customer service through effective ticket management.
  • Work collaboratively on customer sites, integrating seamlessly with the existing IT team.
  • Utilise Remote Monitoring Tools for proactive maintenance and support.
  • Respond efficiently to customer requests and enquiries, adhering to agreed timescales and escalation procedures.
  • Create and update technical documentation, advising clients on IT updates and changes.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain infrastructure, including laptops, workstations, servers, and networking equipment.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Proven 2nd line experience in a Service Desk environment.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Understand and adhere to agreed timescales, recognise the need for escalation, and demonstrate strong troubleshooting skills.
  • Hands-on experience with Office 365 Cloud services (Email, SharePoint, Teams, OneDrive).
  • Expertise in Microsoft domain infrastructure (Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, Active Directory, etc.).
  • Experience with backup solutions and a solid understanding of networking fundamentals.
  • Own a car for travel to datacentres and client locations.

Desirable Skills:

  • Confidence in communicating with diverse audiences and third-party vendors.
  • Experience with public cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure).
  • Knowledge of switches, firewalls, and routers.
  • Ability to document third-party applications and support service providers.

Salary Offered – £28,000 – £35,000 dependent on experience
